This post has been a long time coming – ever since I visited Graham and the Bertha’s Pizza team before they opened back in August, I’ve been meaning to share these photos with you. It’s one of my most-visited restaurants, and here’s why.
I first headed over to Bertha’s a few weeks before they opened, to take some photos and chat about their hopes for the place. It looked good even then, with half-finished shelving and debris about the place. The interior was so simple – mainly white and grey, with some pops of warm yellow. I couldn’t wait to sit on their bespoke benches and try one of their pizzas.
I headed there not long after it had opened, and was surprised to see it was quite quiet, however it has got busier and busier. I had the special which was peach and goat’s curd – it was so delicious, and I really hope they have it again when peach season rolls back around.
They have plenty of vegan and veggie options, and I’ve tried a few of their staple pizzas, as well as some of the specials – they had one called the Devon Double one week, so I had to have that – but the reigning champion of pizzas is this one…
The Bertha’s Meat and Heat
I have almost it every single time I go (which is pretty often) and it never fails to disappoint. It’s the perfect combination of sweet + salty + meaty + hot, and my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
As well as the best pizza, Bertha’s also make beautiful gelato and sorbet – they have different flavours every time we go in. They’ve all been great, but the stand out flavours in my mind have been peanut butter, yogurt with some kind of peach coulis, mango, and milk chocolate. I can’t wait to see what they have next time.
I’ve got to mention the staff too – who are always so friendly and attentive. Special mention to Peter, who is basically our BFF now, as we go in there so often.
Bertha’s Pizza is open from Wednesday – Saturday, and is well worth a visit if you’re after a delicious pizza in Bristol.
Finally, here are the photos I took back in July, before they had completely finished. I love their personalised pizza oven and the yellow bar area. The mural on the wall is a cute touch too – especially as they included their infamous yellow van.
