Last week, one of my best friends and I headed out into the countryside on a little adventure. We were off to have a day of happiness, which for us involved a picnic, spending time together, and wandering around in one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been in the UK.

To celebrate their Washed In Happiness campaign and their new coastal whites collection, FatFace sent us a happiness hamper full of lovely things, including a National Trust day pass. After a bit of research, we decided that Stourhead looked pretty nice.

There was a cute bridge and a lake, and it seemed really sweet. Plus, it was only about an hour from south Bristol, where I live.

The images online totally didn’t prepare us for how beautiful this place is – and I don’t think mine will do it justice either.

We had emptied our happiness hamper of the lovely clothes and popped them on before we left my house, and filled it with some picnic gear and a few yummy bits to eat.

We chose a lovely spot by the lake to have our lunch, and were swiftly joined by some very cheeky ducks – they ate right out of our hands!

After sitting and enjoying lunch in the beautiful surroundings, we set off to explore. The placid lake was so serene, and surrounded by trees so full and green – yes I am a poet.

And I need to mention the flowers. Oh my goodness, there were so many rhododendron bushes in full bloom. There were vivid purples next to yellows and oranges, but my favourites were the pinks – as you can probably tell scrolling through these photos I took.

There were also a few interesting buildings dotted around, including these amazing caves down by the water’s edge (I think it was called the grotto) with elegant statues and a little hole to look out over the lake.

We were only there a few hours, but I’m sure we missed some of these structures and hidey holes – a very good excuse to go back and explore more sometime.

After marvelling at the trees buzzing with life and the sweet smell of all the flowers, we headed back to the courtyard for an ice cream before heading home with smiles on our faces.
